Peter Moertl is an Austrian author, educator, and entrepreneur whose work bridges the realms of philosophy, storytelling, and human transformation. With over three decades of experience in international business and education, Peter has trained tens of thousands of people—both online and in person—in countries including China, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Russia, the United States, and throughout Europe.

Together with his wife Marija, a former model from Russia, Peter has helped bring ancient wisdom to new audiences through both teaching and translation. He co-translated three advanced works from English into German: a detailed biography of Je Tsongkapa, a commentary on the Diamond Cutter Sutra, and a commentary on the Heart Sutra. These multi-year projects reflect his deep commitment to the contemplative traditions that now shape his writing.

Marija, meanwhile, continues to translate major works into Russian and serves as the primary liaison to the Russian-language publisher AST. Together, they co-founded the Classic Wisdom Academy (AKM), which serves more than 10,000 students and hosts events in over 14 cities across Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking regions. Their second initiative, Pink Diamond, partners with the Diamond Cutter Institute and the Yoga Studies Institute to offer personal development programs worldwide.
Peter and Marija’s story began in Kyiv, a city close to their hearts and the backdrop for the early chapters of their co-authored book I Am Loved. This work—published in Russian (AST), Ukrainian, and now being released by Oak Tree in Taiwan (August/September)—is also being translated into Hebrew. It explores themes of love, resilience, and transformation, and has deeply resonated with readers across cultures.
A lifelong fan of speculative fiction, Peter immersed himself in the worlds of Frank Herbert, Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Will Wight, and George R.R. Martin. “I read in for years,” he says, “knowing that one day I would read out.” That day came with The Power of Fear—his debut novel blending epic fantasy and science fiction with the philosophical depth of Tibetan Buddhist thought.
Written in just six months, the book took shape during a disciplined daily meditation practice, with each chapter emerging organically from early-morning contemplations. Peter has completed eight silent retreats of one month or longer, culminating in a three-month retreat on a remote Croatian island in early 2025. As a non-native English speaker, he collaborated closely with ChatGPT to refine the prose and bring emotional clarity and nuance to the text for an international audience. The result is a novel that’s both intellectually rich and deeply felt.
Peter’s worldview has also been shaped by formative cultural experiences. In the 1990s, he lived and worked in Japan and South Africa, where he witnessed Nelson Mandela’s historic 100-day address in Parliament. Later, his work in global finance brought him to Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Africa, and post-Soviet countries like Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan—experiences that deepened his understanding of cultural diversity and spiritual belief systems.

In 2014, Peter and Marija spent several months living in India and Nepal, immersing themselves in the philosophical and contemplative traditions of the region. He also lived for two years in Germany and for 16 years in Sweden and speaks Swedish fluently, having absorbed the culture as naturally as a second homeland. In late 2021, Peter and Marija moved permanently to Moscow but made the difficult decision to leave shortly after the war in Ukraine began.
Earlier in life, Peter completed Austria’s compulsory military service as a one-year volunteer in an elite mountain combat training unit—an experience that shaped his early understanding of courage, discipline, and the internal dynamics of fear. He later trained as a PADI Rescue Diver and completed several marathons, building on a lifelong passion for skiing, ice hockey, and soccer. This physical grounding continues to inform his writing and teaching, where both mental endurance and embodied wisdom play essential roles.

In addition to his writing and teaching, Peter co-founded Brilliant Minds Meditate, which delivers structured meditation programs in multiple languages, and serves as Assistant Professor at the Sedona College of International Management (SCIM), helping train future teachers and leaders. He and Marija are currently building a home in Sedona, Arizona—just beneath the Chapel of the Holy Cross—further deepening their connection to the American Southwest and to the literary and spiritual communities they serve.
Peter is currently seeking representation to bring The Power of Fear to U.S. readers—a book that challenges conventional narratives, transcends genre, and offers a rare fusion of emotional storytelling and timeless wisdom.
